3.) How do I view an attached file in PINE?

To view an attached file, press [v] (ViewAttch). You will first be prompted to enter the attachment number. After entering this number, you will be asked if you wish to save or view the attachment. In this case, choose [v] for "view".

4.) How do I download an attached file in PINE?

To download an attached file, press [v] (ViewAttch). You will first be prompted to enter the attachment number. After entering this, you will be asked whether you wish to save or view the attachment. In this case, choose [s] for "save". Once the file has been saved, quit PINE and go to your tools menu (type [!tools]). Choose option [d] (download). Now, simply enter the file name that the attachment was saved as in your home directory. CCIL will then automatically send the file to your PC.

5.) How do I send an attached file via e-mail?

To send an attachment in PINE, simply type the file name at the "Attchmnt:" prompt in the message header. If you do not know the file name press [ctrl-t]. This will bring up a list of the files and directories in your home directory. The attachment will be sent when you hit [ctrl-x] to send the email message.

6.) How do I foward all of my mail to another address?

There are two ways to forward all of your e-mail:

The easiest way is to go to the CCIL Post Office (type [!postoffice]) and choose the forward option. Then press [f] for the Forward option. You will be asked for the email address -- simply enter the address you want your email forwarded to at the prompt.

The other way is to do it manually. First, type [!tools] to enter your tools menu. Choose option [w] to enter your workbench. Next, press [E] to create a new file. At the "New file name?" prompt type [.foward], followed by return. This will bring up the PICO editor. Now type the email address that you want all of your email to be forwarded to. Once you've done that, press [ctrl-x] to exit the editor.

7.) How do I print out my e-mail?

To print your e-mail, you need to save it to a file on your CCIL account, download the file to your PC, and print the file from your PC. The process is described step-by-step below.

(1) In PINE, either while displaying the index of your inbox, any folder, or while displaying any individual mail item, press [e] to save the message. You will be asked for the name of a file to save the item to. If you enter the name of a file that already exists, you will be asked if you wish to append the item to the end of the file. (By appending multiple messages to a file, you can end up printing multiple mail items at once.)

(2) Exit PINE, and select menu option [d] to download a file. When you are prompted for the name of a file to download, enter the name of the file you saved the mail item to. The download should now commence.

(3) Sign off of CCIL and exit your terminal program. Now print the file you downloaded just as you would normally print a file on your PC. You can also edit the file in your word processor or file editor.

(4) The next time you are on CCIL, be sure to use the File/Directory Browser, found in your [!tools] menu, to delete the file from your home directory.

8.) How do I download my e-mail?

To download a folder from PINE, first press [w] (or type [!tools] from your home menu to go to your tools menu. Second, start the File/Directory Browser by pressing [b]. Third, choose [d] for the download option. When it prompts you for a file name, type: "mail/foldername" without the quotation marks. For example, "mail/saved-messages" would download your saved-messages folder.

If you'd like to download your INBOX from PINE then type: "/var/mail/username" without the quotation marks.
